September 2024 Alzheimer’s Association Research Fellowship Grant
We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Julie Ottoy has been awarded the prestigious 2024 Alzheimer’s Association Research Fellowship (AARF)!
This funding will support Dr. Ottoy’s groundbreaking study on the dynamic interplay between vascular injury and inflammation in the progression of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Dr. Ottoy’s project will further dive into how brain inflammation and vascular injury play a role in Alzheimer’s disease progression using advanced biomarker studies.
July 2024 VAST Graduate Student Scholarship
Congratulations Matt for winning the VAST Graduate Student Award!
His research explores how Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) impacts sensory processing and memory by examining cerebrovascular dysfunction. Using advanced imaging and deep learning techniques, this study maps changes in vascular networks to better understand TBI’s effects on brain structure and function.
March 2024 Wu Tsai Neuroscience Institute Visiting Scholar Award
Congrats Dr. Maged Goubran on receiving the Wu Tsai Neuroscience Institute Visiting Scholar Award from Stanford!
While there, he hosted the MIRACL workshop and gave a talk at the Radiological Sciences Lab Seminar in the Department of Radiology.
February 2024 NIH R01 grant
Excited to share that Dr. Goubran, in collaboration with Drs. Stefanovic (UofT), McLaurin (UofT), and Hyder (Yale University), have been awarded the NIH R01 grant for their project, “Imaging the effects of transcranial alternating current stimulation in an experimental model of Alzheimer’s Disease.”
This research will focus on understanding how transcranial electric current stimulation (tACS) influences neuronal oscillatory bands, neurotransmission, and working memory in Alzheimer’s disease models. This could pave the way for novel neuromodulation therapies for AD!

July 2023 CIHR Spring 2023 Project Grants Competition
Congratulations to Dr. Maged Goubran, along with co-investigators Dr. Jennifer Rabin, Dr. Julie Ottoy and Dr. Min Su (Peter) Kang, on receiving the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Spring 2023 Project Grants award.
The project aims to employ advanced brain imaging, AI-driven analysis, and patient subgrouping to unravel the complex relationship between brain connectivity, tau protein spread and cognitive decline. This will offer new insights for improved diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

We are thrilled to announce that our lab’s latest research paper has been featured on the cover of the Journal of Cerebral Blood Flow & Metabolism (JCBFM)!
The paper investigates the contributions of diffusion MRI-based microstructural alterations to amyloid-ligand positron emission tomography (Aβ-PET) in white matter (WM) regions and cognition.
